I figured it was time to get back into posting some of my work. This is Alaska after all. It's winter, there's about 5 hours of daylight currently (up from 4 hours, so that's a good thing!) I haven't been able to get outdoors much with the Nikon because of time and equipment constraints. Winters up here aren't like they are down in the lower 48. Constant hardpacked snow on the roads can make longer trips fairly treacherous. Cell Reception off the main Highways and Towns is nonexistent. As it gets warmer, and our Spring Breakup starts, I should be able to get out more and find new material. My job moved us to Fairbanks just shy of 4 years ago. Since then we've been getting out and slowly exploring areas closer to Fairbanks, with the occasional longer trip for camping. Since we moved up here, I've always wanted a place where I could show people from the lower 48 how beautiful it is up here in the great north. My plan, moving forward this year, is to get out more and bring my camera with

I almost had what I've been trying to get for the past 2 years...perfect CG (Cloud to Ground) Lightning shots.  Working nights, its hard to get out when theres a good storm rolling in.  Soooo many different variable, is the storm heavy enough? Putting down CG Bolts? Can I get to a good spot for photos? Is my battery charged? (Yes that HAS happened >.

Finally got off on one of the nicer days of this winter, 45 degrees, shifting between cloudy and partly cloudy, so light was being a pain.  Decided to head down to Sunken Meadow State Park and do some "Nature Hike" that my mom had seen in the paper.  Well, no one else showed up, so we did our own.  There was enough ice to get down by the main freshwater/brackish pond, which netted me some amazing shots with my new Telephoto.  Take a look, so far I have 3 of them up, the ones that didn't need any photomanips.  Im working on 5 hours sleep in 2 days along with at least a 2 mile walk today, so Im going to go relax and maybe work on a few more sho
